The megacity
The definition of a megacity is "a major city with a population of over 10 million people". Jakarta, a city at just over 10 million people in 2013, just fits into the classification of "Megacity" and has a population density which comes in at 17th in the world. Per every square kilometre there is 10,500 people. Compared to Melbourne's population density which is quite widely spread over the state, Jakarta's population are very tightly packed together. The majority of all the buildings in the city are offices and for business, but there are other major buildings in Jakarta, like; The Gelora Bung Karno Sport stadium which can hold up to 88,000 people where sports including tennis, athletics, soccer, hockey and baseball are played. The tallest skyscraper in Jakarta is the Wisma 46 standing at 262 metres high, and has 51 floors and was completed in 1996.
