This image shows the growth of population in the different sections of Jakarta, a key factor in how Jakarta has grown so fast being that the largest growth has happened in the outer suburbs. This meaning that the city has been able to grow outwards and the the population is growing in the less urban areas.
But the official population of Jakarta in January 2014 was 10,365,030 people with a large amount of those living in the inner suburbs and the city. This meaning that the majority of people living in Jakarta still live closer to the CBD even though the city is expanding fast. Overall, Jakarta's population has risen by 6.4% since the last recording and has risen to a population density of about 39,740 people per square mile.

problems and solutions, push and pull factors
The reasons that so many people live in Jakarta is that it is the capital city of Indonesia and that there are are plenty of business and work opportunities in the city. People are pushed away from the city because of the high population density which can be off-putting for some, as well as the loud noises at night and the traffic. There are also limited roads and not enough highways, so that means that they are lots of traffic jams and other road blocks for construction, as you can see in the video above. The plan to fix Jakarta's traffic and urbanisation problems is to build and expand roads, streets and highways, so that traffic can flow more frequently. If traffic can flow more, than it will allow more people to enter in and out of the city when they want to.
